The leaves are carefully withered, gently bruised, and oxidized up to 90% — much more than a typical oolong. This artistry gives the tea its glowing amber-red liquor, smooth texture, and rich layers of citrus peel, honey, fruit, and roasted caramel notes. Unlike pu’er, which relies on microbial fermentation, Red Oolong achieves its depth and color purely through oxidation and roasting, resulting in a cleaner, more refined taste.
